Economic Development Update

June 24, 2020

Welcome to the first edition of the UT Dallas Economic Development E-Newsletter — a brief biweekly e-mail with quick economic development updates and examples of how UT Dallas can help match the workforce needs of North Texas employers.

On the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, we will send a link to our most recent article from The Connection, a blog exploring how UT Dallas interacts with and impacts the larger Dallas-Fort Worth community.

Our latest article examines the gains UT Dallas has made in recruitment of local students. Top-providing school districts in DFW contributed up to nine times as many UT Dallas freshmen in 2018 compared to 2010. Word about UT Dallas is spreading — and high school seniors are hearing good things!

Our division works diligently to provide valuable data and resources to our internal and external economic development partners. Here are a few examples of recent data requests from our economic development partners:

  • An economic development agency contacted the UT Dallas economic development team about a Fortune 500 company interested in establishing a financial services and IT operations center in Dallas-Fort Worth. We demonstrated how our programs in the Naveen Jindal School of Management and Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science would match the company’s workforce needs, sharing real-time enrollment and workforce pipeline information, average salary data, and employment trends.
  • In order to support their response for a company considering relocating to their community, an economic development organization asked what percentage of UT Dallas graduates stay in the DFW area. We directed the organization to the Data & Analysis page of our website, where visitors can find the answer to that question plus a wealth of other economic development-related data.
  • An economic development agency met with our team about their newly implemented incentive program to attract new companies and start-ups to their community. We provided the organization with a list of the top companies hiring UT Dallas graduates to help in their recruitment conversations.

We are happy to fulfill customized data requests for our North Texas economic development partners and to connect your organization with resources and contacts at UT Dallas that could lead to mutual economic development partnerships.

Please contact us to learn how your organization can partner with UT Dallas.
