Economic Development Update

August 27, 2025

Sales tax is the second-largest revenue source for DFW cities after property taxes, with Dallas alone generating over $3.3B in 2024. Retail, wholesale and food services were the top drivers of taxable sales and employment across the region last year. This month’s issue of The Connection takes a detailed look sales tax in our region, including which industries generate the most sales tax revenue.

Our team has a produced a new Freshmen Dashboard Map to quantify and visualize which K-12 school districts UTD students come from across Texas. It shows enrollment numbers, graduating class size, and average SAT and ACT scores by district. This tool, along with more interactive tools and customized reports, are available to use free of charge on our website!

We are happy to fulfill customized data requests for our North Texas economic development partners and to connect local industry with UT Dallas research and workforce development initiatives.

Please reach out to Jenny Mizutowicz, CEcD to learn how your organization can partner with UT Dallas.
