The U.S. labor market lost 5,663 jobs from December 2024 to January 2025, with the notable decline in professional and business services. National unemployment rose to 4.4%, while DFW saw a 29.2% increase in job postings and a 1.75% rise in Consumer Price Index. The BLS has not yet released labor market data for Texas or DFW, and we will update this report with the respective values once they are released.

Six DFW-area office leases have been terminated by the federal government’s new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). As of March 6, DOGE’s website shows a grand total of 748 lease terminations totaling over 9.5 million square feet and, the department says, about $468 million in savings. D CEO Magazine identified six total leases in North Texas affected totaling 44,278 square feet and $1.12 million in annual rent.

Texas recently won Site Selection magazine’s Governor’s Cup award for the 13th consecutive year. The Governor’s Cup recognizes top-performing U.S. states for business relocations and expansions. Texas reported 1,368 projects in 2024 – more than twice the total number of projects than the second-ranked state.
