Labor Market Update

DFW gained about 0.02% of its 4,290,500 strong labor force in new employment this June. Local unemployment is up slightly, in line with state and national figures. Construction and hospitality experienced the most month-over-month growth, with government jobs experiencing the largest decline.

New Funds

A new affordable housing and economic development initiative has been launched to the tune of $35 million by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas. These funds are expected to help provide long-term capital at low costs to the Dallas area. “It’s our way of being able to expand our reach and support a greater part of the overall community.” noted Greg Hettrick, FHLB senior vice president.

Chip Investment

The Biden-Harris administration has announced an agreement worth up to $400 million to assist in the investment of advanced chip manufacturing in Sherman. “As a result of this proposed investment … will create over 2,000 jobs in Texas and Missouri, ultimately lowering costs and improving economic and national security for Americans.” noted U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo.

Star Eats

The famous Michelin Star restaurant guide is set to start reviewing restaurants in Texas this year. It is hoped that this new spotlight on the lone star state’s many exciting culinary offerings will boost economic activity across the state. “And what we really like about this is that while Michelin will recognize specific restaurants, the entire restaurant community will benefit because they’ll be more people coming to these destinations.” remarked Emily Williams, Texas Restaurant Association President and CEO.
