Economic Development Update

July’s labor market statistics continue to show signs of growth for DFW but are markedly more subdued than previous month-to-month gains, with only 5,800 new jobs added since June. Meanwhile, growth in the consumer price index has also been slowed, suggesting that prices might be following wider trends and heading towards stability. Two of our UTD faculty members, Dr. Shuang Hao and Dr. Wei Yang from the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science, have received National Science Foundation CAREER grants to support their research to detect online deception and improve automated software analysis. These awards are the most prestigious for early-career faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholar and are likely to become leaders in their fields.
