Labor Market Update

DFW gained 14,000 jobs this May. The retail and hospitality sectors saw the greatest gains in employment. While overall unemployment rose slightly by 0.2 percentage points, both employment and inflation levels are in line with state and national trends.

Convention Center Expansion

Community leaders broke new ground at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center, ushering in the center’s $3.7 billion new expansion project. The project will provide new streets and recreational space to boost redevelopment of downtown Dallas. “The revitalization of this convention center is precisely what downton Dallas needs,” remarked Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson.

Development Trip

Officials from the city of Richardson are set to travel to India on an economic development tour later this month. The Richardson delegation will with meet with local Indian officials at five cities across the country. Chris Shacklett, delegation member and interim director of economic development at Richardson, noted “Our goal is to strengthen economic ties and [lay] the groundwork for new business opportunities between Richardson and one of the fastest-growing economies in the world”.
