Economic Development Update

November’s labor market figures pointed towards an increase of roughly 16,200 new jobs to the DFW Metroplex, with wholesale and retail trade leading the charge with an added 8,900 jobs as hiring ramped up during the holiday shopping season. One of the fastest growing occupations during the month was respiratory therapists, which saw a month-over-month increase in job postings by 127.7% from October. This occupation is likely experiencing an increase in hiring as medical facilities and hospitals begin staffing up in anticipation for increased seasonal sickness.

Dallas North Tollway is expected to receive a six-mile expansion through Prosper and Celina that should open by the close of 2027. The infrastructure improvements are expected to cost $460 million, according to the NTTA. “History has shown, where NTTA roads go, economic development and prosperity soon follow” noted one NTTA official.

Plano is playing a massive role in leading North Texas towards becoming a future leader in life sciences and medical innovation by supporting the revitalization of the 200-acre Electronic Data Systems HQ into Texas Research Quarter. The first phase of the project is estimated to bring around 2,000 new jobs to the city. This project is aimed at making Plano a catalyst in research and development, medical innovation, office space, and manufacturing areas in the life sciences development.
