Economic Development Update

December 15, 2021

Cumulative Job Change. Feb 2020, 3.8 million jobs; April 2020, minus 425.4 thousand jobs; October 2021, plus 44.5 thousand jobs.

The DFW Metroplex experienced a net gain of 44,500 jobs in October for a total count of roughly 3,877,000 jobs in the region. This milestone marks a new chapter for our regional recovery, as it is the first time our employment has surpassed the previous pre-pandemic peak in February 2020. For more details and to understand what trends are fueling this growth, see this month’s DFW Labor Market Update.

Last month, three pitch competitions were rolled into one awards ceremony that conferred more than $400,000 in prize money for the 2021 Big Idea Competition at The University of Texas at Dallas. Contestants included UT Dallas students, alumni and researchers in three tracks: student, alumni and research commercialization.
