The UT Dallas Economic Development Advisory Committee convened at Northside last week to discuss how the group could collaborate to help strengthen UT Dallas’ economic impact on the North Texas region. The group was joined by special guests Dr. David Daniel, president emeritus of UT Dallas and current president of The Academy of Medicine, Engineering & Science of Texas (TAMEST), who gave an update on a recent study benchmarking UT Dallas and the region’s strengths for potential collaborations with the U.S. Department of Defense, and Steve Guengerich, associate vice president of research and innovation for UT Dallas, who updated the group about UT Dallas’ initiatives in the Richardson IQ. DFW recorded a net gain of 27,200 jobs in June, bringing the region 53,000 jobs short of February 2020 pre-pandemic employment. Unemployment rates increased across the board in DFW, Texas, and nationwide to 6.0%, 6.6% and 6.1%, respectively. Job postings in the DFW area decreased slightly between May and June 2021, but were 35% higher than in June 2020. |
|
The region experienced a decrease in job postings for heavy truck drivers, retail salespersons, supervisors of retail salespersons, customer service representatives, and stockers/order fillers. See this month’s DFW Labor Market Update for details, and look for our July 2021 Update on September 8. |
